7th Annual Youth Firearms Safety Class

Crosshairs Texas is SUPER proud to sponsor the Father & Daughter Team from our very own town of Bastrop!

With the help of our generous sponsors, we were able to host a successful sold-out 7th Annual Youth Firearms Safety Class. Our goal for this class was to replace fear and curiosity with knowledge and understanding. The kids and parents had a blast learning that safety means knowing your surroundings, staying alert and keeping yourself and others from accident or injury in all situations not just when guns are present. The students also had the opportunity to hear from the TSRA Executive director about the youth programs available in Texas as well as heard from a father/ daughter shooting team that is sponsored by Crosshairs Texas.  Shafter & Cora Williams shared why they started going out to the range and why they started to shoot competitively.

Thank you Shafter for sharing your inspiring story:

“The “why” behind my decision to start training and competing with my daughter has two parts. First, it’s what I do. She watches me dry fire train, work out, pack bags to go live fire train at the range and travel to compete in major matches. Naturally, it’s something that sparked her interest and she wanted to get involved. It turned into more than a hobby with her dad. It has become a way for her to see dedication and love for a sport in action, which in turn is teaching her every day that when you put in the work and effort you get results.”

“The second is that I firmly believe that being proficient with firearms is crucial for personal safety. I train her because I want her to feel empowered and safe as she grows older. I want her to navigate the world without fear, knowing she can protect herself and her loved ones. Whether it’s walking to her car at night, going for a run in the afternoon, or stopping at a gas station early in the morning, I want her to feel confident and secure in any situation.”

“I remind her that while God did not make us all equal, the tools created by John M. Browning and Eugene Stoeger level the playing field. This mindset isn’t just about firearms; it’s about the confidence and preparedness to face life head-on.”

“At the end of the day, I consider myself truly blessed to pursue something I’m passionate about alongside someone I love so much. Coaching my daughter and witnessing her shooting skills evolve has been an incredible journey, especially because it’s time spent with her dad. These moments of training, competing, and creating memories together are treasures I’ll always hold dear.”

Kids learned the four rules of gun safety:

  • Every gun is real.
  • Every gun is loaded.
  • No! Don’t touch it!
  • Tell an adult.

As a reward for all their hard learning and attentiveness each child received “Kid Dollars” for answering & participation throughout the event. The student with the most dollars got the first pick of toy guns set up in the display case, they had the opportunity to “purchase” their firearms after they handed in all their completed training paperwork.  With the help of your sponsorship, we were able to take curiosity and fear and create an experience that was fun and informative.

Thank you again from the Crosshairs Texas Team and we look forward to next year’s event.

Sincerely,

The Crosshairs Texas Team
