It’s no secret that this small town gun shop has struggled to become the Premier Gun Store since moving into downtown Bastrop in early 2014.  But they have been committed to supporting local start up businesses, and all community events that invited them to participate.  They generously donated and continue to this day, to provide any and all items to local and state charities that reach out to them for support.

This year is no different, with donating all the firearms, gifts and awards to the National Guard of Texas for the BEST WARRIOR event held at Camp Swift.  This event has been continually held in its entirety in Bastrop County since 2013.

The Best Warrior Competition is a rigorous three-day competition that tests the tactical and technical expertise of Soldiers and Airmen through scored events, such as an oral knowledge exam board, a tactical road march, obstacle course and attended physical fitness test, as well as “a mystery event” announced the day of the competition. Both Army and Air National Guard members compete against each other for the title of “Best Warrior” and “Best noncommissioned officer” in the state of Texas.

Grit, endurance, and determination take center stage as service members from the Texas Army National Guard and Texas Air National Guard, as well as international competitors from the Republic of Chile and the Czech Republic, put their skills to the test in the Texas Military Department Best Warrior Competition.

The grueling three-day event is more than just a test of skill, it’s a physical and mental crucible. From weapons qualifications to tactical combat casualty care, road marches, and an intense 200-meter swim, competitors push through exhaustion, stress, and unpredictable challenges, all while operating on minimal sleep in a rugged field environment.

The winners of this Best Warrior competition will be named and honored at an upcoming banquet and will continue to represent Texas in regional and/or national Best Warrior competitions later this year.  Army National Guard Best Warrior Competition saw Sgt. Mark Fuggiti (Pennsylvania Army National Guard) and Sgt. Matthew Howard (Arkansas Army National Guard) emerge as the top NCO and Soldier of the Year, respectively.

  • Texas Army National Guard: Sgt. Emma Reese was the sole female competitor.

Not only does Crosshairs Texas donate their firearms and awards, they have been selected every year to teach the DPS License To Carry Class at the NGAT Conference.

This year their Director of Training Crystal Ouzillou, the owner of Southern Charm Firearm Academy and facilitator of the Bastrop chapter of A Girl & A Gun will co-host this training event with Devon Rose Michalik, partner of Crosshairs Texas LLC & Shoot Here Texas LLC. These two highly trained Firearms Instructors have trained more students in Central Texas than any other firearms instructor in this area.  It is clear that Crosshairs Texas does more than support our military financially, they are training them as well.
