Cleaning a firearm after every use takes only a few minutes and ensures accuracy, good working order, and a long-lasting gun finish. On the other hand, a neglected firearm will be difficult to clean and will often be badly pitted, sometimes beyond repair. We offer regular classes on care of your rifle, shotgun and handgun.

At Crosshairs Texas, we understand that you want your firearm in 100% condition and with regular cleaning and service we can keep it that way.

How to Check In, Drop Off & Pick Up your firearm in service

What Happens When Dropping Off for Service?
Unloaded & Cased: The safest method is to transport the firearm unloaded, in a locked case, not readily accessible (like in the trunk), which often satisfies transport rules. Dropping off a firearm for repair with a licensed gunsmith is a common, legal activity, but it must strictly follow the rules for possession, transport, and location, as outlined in Chapter 46 of the Texas Penal Code.

In Texas, dropping off a firearm for gunsmithing is generally legal, but must comply with Chapter 46 of the Penal Code, focusing on lawful possession, transport, and specific prohibitions like those in Sec. 46.03 (Prohibited Places) and Sec. 46.05 (Prohibited Weapons), requiring clear handling, often related to FFL (Federal Firearms License) dealers or qualified individuals for repair, and never leaving unsecured where children can access them per Sec. 46.13.
Gunsmiths handle these under specific rules, but the owner must ensure lawful transfer and pickup, avoiding “prohibited weapons” or locations where carrying is banned, to stay within legal bounds.  Crosshairs Texas Gunsmithing has an FFL-07, allowing us to receive firearms for repair, even if the owner couldn’t legally possess them for carry, as the transfer is for a specific purpose.
Transport: The owner must transport the firearm legally, unloaded and in a case, to the gunsmith.
No “Prohibited” Weapons: Unless the gunsmith is licensed to handle them (e.g., NFA items), the owner shouldn’t drop off a genuinely prohibited weapon.
Receipts & Records: Gunsmiths keep detailed records (logbooks) of all firearms, which is crucial for legal defense if questions arise.

What Happens When Picking Up Service?
Federal ATF Rules (For Gunsmiths):
Crosshairs Texas Record Keeping: As a gunsmith (FFL) we must log the firearm’s receipt and return in our records, similar to a Form 4473, even if not always required for return to the original owner.
NFA Items: For National Firearms Act items (silencers, machine guns), an ATF Form 5 is needed for transfer, repair, and approval before return.
Return to Owner: A Form 4473 isn’t needed when the gunsmith returns the firearm to the person from whom it was received, provided it’s for repair/return.
Is an ATF Form 4473 required when a gunsmith returns a repaired firearm?
No — as long as the firearm is returned to the same person who originally dropped it off for service. A Form 4473 is only required if someone else is picking up the firearm.
[27 CFR 478.124(a) and 478.147]

What Happens If I don’t Pickup My Firearm?
We Notify the Owner:  Crosshairs Texas sends written notices (certified mail) to the last known address, emails to the address on file, text messages, and phone messages.
We Contact ATF: For truly abandoned items, Crosshairs Texas contacts the ATF’s Asset Forfeiture Division to claim or dispose of the property, as they handle abandoned property claims.
Destroy Unclaimable Parts: Destroy serial-numbered frames/receivers or other NFA components if they can’t be legally transferred after a set period.
You have the right to refuse any further service or repairs. If you fail to communicate, pay in full any repair/diagnosis, or communicate with our staff, you hereby grant Crosshairs Texas LLC to become the owner of the UNCLAIMED PROPERTY and/or ABANDONED FIREARM(S) in question. You agree to hereby authorize Crosshairs Texas LLC to sell, donate, or otherwise dispose of said property. You have 14 days to pick up and pay in full any charges for your gunsmithing services, or your item will become unclaimed property of Crosshairs Texas LLC.

What You Agree To When Dropping Off Your Firearm:
***Crosshairs Texas Gunsmithing Service Agreement***
If you do not agree to these terms, please do not leave your firearm with Crosshairs Texas LLC.
I am leaving my firearm with Crosshairs Texas LLC for the services listed above. I understand that if I decline, change my mind, or refuse recommended or necessary repairs, I am responsible for the minimum diagnostic fee of $99.00, plus any applicable shop fees and taxes.
