As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, all Hunter Education classes are ordered to be cancelled through March 31st, and possibly into April and May, depending on the status of this pandemic situation. Thank you for your patience and understanding. 

 

HUNTERS EDUCATION CLASS (TPWD)

This course is designed for novice or young hunters, and  a refresher for any age hunter or outdoor person- ages 9 years and above. The course covers the core competencies of firearm and hunting safety, hunting ethics and wildlife conservation. All materials are provided.  The Hunter Education Classroom Course lasts a maximum of 6 hours of classroom instruction. This time does not include registration, breaks, test administration and certification card distribution. Courses are offered across the state year round and are taught by certified volunteer instructors. The fee for the certification is $15. Pay the fee to the instructor. Range Fee is $15 which includes ammo, rifles, targets, ear & eye protection.

  • The fee for the certification is $15.plus an additional $15. Range Fee for the shooting portion.
  • All equipment is included, and students need to bring their lunch as we work thru the entire day.
  • Children under 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult or parent for the entire class.
  • If you have a hard time doing the online registration show up early and we will help you with it.

Crosshairs Texas includes the field portion as part of this classroom course.  This course is designed for novice or young hunters, ages 9 years and above. When you arrive at the course:

  1. Pay the fee to the instructor.
  2. Attend the entire course.
  3. Take the written exam and get at least 75% correct to pass.
  4. Upon successful completion, you may receive a temporary card from the instructor. You may legally hunt with a valid Texas hunting license and your temporary certification card. Your permanent Texas Hunter Education certification card will be available for downloading and printing from your Account Profile.

Classes at this location include live fire with a selection of hunting guns including .22 rimfire rifles and 20 gauge shotgun. Thus, there are additional fees to cover range use, liability coverage, and facilities fees of $15 per student. Add the Texas Parks & Wildlife course fee and the total is $30 per student. At the time of class, we will complete registration.

Ages 9-16 are required to take the Field Course.
